Mechanism of nonlinear frequency mixing error and its influence on measurement accuracy are studied synthetically, it is mainly caused by the imperfection of polarizing beam splitters (PBS), the elliptical polarization and non-orthogonality of light beams. The technique is based on measurement and analysis of the changes in the state of polarization that occur when polarized light is reflected on a sample surface. The Handbook of Ellipsometry is a critical foundation text on an increasingly critical subject. When a fiber is illuminated by polarized light, a relative phase retardation Δ is produced between the two orthogonal components of the light traveling in the S2 layer as it emerges from a cell wall (see Figure 1). For aiming at the disadvantages of spectroscopic ellipsometers and the requirements of in-situ and real time measurement, in this dissertation the heterodyne inteferometric ellipsometry are studied systematically. In the book , therefore, “ Principles of Optics” and “Polarization of Light” are described (Chapters 2 and 3). Bashara: Ellipsometry and Polarized Light (North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1977) Chap. Ellipsometry is an optical technique used for studies of thin films and surfaces. Ellipsometry is an optical procedure that measures the change in polarization state of a beam of light after it is reflected off of (or transmitted through) a sample.
